All tangled up in Stew

“All were baptized into Stewart Traill. In every sense of the word: his teaching, his concepts, his view on life, his skepticism of other Christians. Go and learn what this means”.

Blessed is he and blessed is she who is able to get free from the grip of Stewart Traill and the Church of Bible Understanding, and those who are able to overcome his lies and curses will have a great reward.

To the tune of:

"Tangled up in Blue" by Bob Dylan

Early one morning the sun was shining
I was laying in bed
Wond'ring if they'd changed it all
If there cult was still there My folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Stew's teaching
All our money still wasn't enough
And I was standing on the side of the road
Rain falling on my shoes
Heading out to go Witnessing
Lord knows I've paid some dues getting through
Tangled up in Stew.

He was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I went to a bunch of meetings
But he used way too much force
We drove our lives as far as we could
Abandoned it at last
Spit up his teachings if I could but
I was sure he knew best
The brothers turned around to look at me
As I was walking away
I heard them say over my shoulder
You hate the lambs I guess
Tangled up in Stew

I had a job in the world
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell
So I drifted down to Philly
Where I happened to be employed
Working for a while scrubbing rugs
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind
I went to a lot of churches
But they never escaped my mind and I just blew
Tangled up in Stew.

I lived with them on Bleeker Street
In a loft upstairs
There was witnessing in the street at night
And oppression in the air
Then he started making us into slaves
And something inside of us died
We had to sell everything we owned
but froze up inside
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keeping on to lies
Tangled up in Stew.

So now I'm going back again
Going to visit them somehow
All the people I used to know
They're an illusion to me now
Some are backslidden
Some are damaged for life
Don't know how it all got so screwed up
I don't what I?m doing with my life
But I'm still on the road
Might as well smoke another joint
We always did feel the same
We just saw it from Traill's point of view
Tangled up in Stew.
